Dear Fictional Characters

You've brightened my life in the darkest times,
You made me smile when I was down in the dumps.
You've made me laugh till my sides were sore!
You opened portals galore, to take me to another dimension
where I could forget my worries and be myself.
We've been on plenty of thrilling adventures together
Where blissful and fond memories were created

Since the dawn of time, we've been inseparable
Silent nights where secrets and endless talks were exchanged.
We rejoiced and cried in every victory and defeat,
We experienced the bleak cold and the summer heat.
Anytime we encountered scornful voices,
We silenced them and walked with our heads held high.
Even though there were petty fights and banters,
The tension in the air dissipated after 10 minutes.

When your time finally came, buckets of tears were cried
How am I supposed to go on without you?
How am I supposed to face the dull and bland reality?
No matter what others said, I still couldn't get over you.
The page stopper, the season finale, the irksome cliffhangers,
or even the dreaded "Cancelled" button:
Nothing could ever take my mind of you.
And to this very day, I still wonder
How are you so close, but yet so far away?

Thanks a ton for inspiring me to write this poem, Aanya! Please do check out her poem on fictional characters, which is super heartfelt and epic.

These are my thoughts on the heartbreak that fictional characters have put us through. Sometimes, fanfiction is just never enough for us weirdos, SMH. Hope you enjoyed this poem, and I’ll see you next Monday. Until then, fellow readers!

      1. I truly truly loved it, especially “How are you so close, but yet so far away?”, and also the part where the characters die because i hate saying goodbye the most, even though I’ve never met them 😦

  1. THIS!! Fictional characters have weirdly become a part of our lives and I love it. I honestly have connected more with them than I have with some people in real life.
