Packing all essentials in a small duffel bag, Cas exited the villa and walked down the boardwalk. He needed some space, some alone time if you will. To be honest, he really did live a quiet life. But, some days felt quite exhausting and he really needed some space. Sounds weird to the average Joe, but it sounded perfectly normal to him.
“The trees and surroundings complement each other with their autumn colours. This is so relaxing”, thought Cas. “Besides, the chilly autumn breeze makes it even more calming. Wonder what’s in store for me this fine evening.”
He then managed to spot a familiar scruffy head with a white hat peeping outside the grey shack near the lake. A small sigh of relief escaped and he went towards it, pulling the strap of the bag a bit higher.
“It’s about time, Cas. I thought you’d bail on me like you did for the past 3 days!”
“Sorry about that, Simon. The past few days have been really hectic and I just couldn’t keep up……”
“Eh, don’t worry about it. Nothing like a good old round of fishing would soothe that troubled mind of yours. Got all the stuff you need?”
“Yup, I sure do.”
“Great. Lemme fetch the Amethyst. That boat hasn’t ever let us down one bit, and she’s been itching to get out and go sail away for a while.”
The duo set off into the lake after 30 minutes of fumbling about with the engine and a series of curses and groans. Casting their rods into the lake, the waiting game began: accompanied by pure silence. Silence so thick that you could cut it with a knife. But the pair enjoyed each other’s company, and the latter acknowledged it.
Cas silently thanked himself for forcing himself to get out of the house. Despite the very mundane routine of his; which included staying in the sidelines willingly, fishing did give him a sense of relief. It was an important piece in his puzzle of a quiet life. A life he got accustomed to, and a life he’d enjoy for long.
