Beast By Day, Beauty At Night

“Keep dreaming, darling. You can’t make a children’s fairytale come true!”

“Maybe I will, just watch me!”

She proceeded to leave home after taking a small knapsack. Why did she leave home, you ask? She was determined to explore the moors. That’s right: the infamous moors, that were rumoured to be home to the hellish horrors, that stayed in the shadows. She was on a journey to prove them wrong.

The only sounds that were heard in the dead of night, were the rustling of leaves; and the distant howling of wolves. Fear never got to her, however; because she had the heart of an adventurer. Only when she reached the entrance to the moors, did she silently pray for courage. Taking a deep breath, she stepped into the shadows; not even bothering to spare one last glance at the outside world.

While trekking in the shadows, she saw a faint light in the distance. Curiousity got the best of her, and she started sprinting towards the illuminating beacon; and once she did reach the light source, she stood there in awe.

For there in the moors, lay a valley of luminous flowers and mushrooms, tall redwood trees, a cool stream, and a horde of electric blue butterflies. It was as if she had struck the motherlode of natural beauties, and now her childish yearning was finally satisfied.

“And they call this a hellish abyss!”, she thought aloud, because she alone knew the truth: The beast by day, was actually beauty at night.

I’m back with another challenge. This time, it’s the weekly “What Do You See” Challenge hosted by the amazing Sadje! Please do check it out, ’cause it’s an epic and fun idea that’ll get your creativity stirring. This was my take on the prompt, and I hope you enjoyed reading it. Until then, fellow readers!

  • Image credit goes to Pixabay.
  • For visually challenged readers, the image shows a woodland scene, where blue butterflies are sitting on the forest floor among tiny mushrooms. Tall trees are visible in the background.
